Lower EGT's

Here is my setup:
1995 Dodge CTD 4x4, long bed, reg cab, auto, 4.10 gears, 125k miles. Tow ~10k most of the time

Mods:
BHAF, #6 plate, KDP done, 3k GSK. Tranny fresh HD build with billet convertor.

I have the AFC spring kit ready to install.

My EGT's get high when towing up hill loaded with 10k trailer. I'd like to put the cruise on at 65mph and not have to keep half an eye on the pyro gauge.

What can I do to lower EGT's?

Dan

How hot does she get going up a hill....??Your mods you done are very little..Beside a bigger turbo, did you try sliding your plate back??Maybe a valet switch when towing may help....

I can easily get over 1300 if I stay in it.
Hell I can get 1300 unloaded before it locks-up in forth, under standing start max acceleration.
Plate is maybe .05 forward.

Valet switch--- How does this help EGT's?

Stock exhaust, cat and all. Was thinking about the Jegs or summit exhaust, for $300 seems like a good deal. I just don't know if it will really help lower EGT or not?

Searched and now I understand how the valet switch works. Anyone sell a kit or do you have to assemble the parts yourself?

I also plan on getting my timing checked/adjusted. What timing does everyone suggest for my setup and use?

Thanks for the help!

You just answered your own ? Exhaust will lower your EGT's quite a bit. An aftermarket IC will help too.

Check for air leaks in the boost system, ducts, connections, etc, then check your timing. More fuel and less air or bad timing equals more EGT's.. It is a balancing act,,between fuel and air. Larger exhaust will reduce EGT some but I don't see how you would need it yet. The stock pipes should be OK for the mods you have.

Carl is got a point on leaks......Forgot to ask...What boost are you running....If low boost with more fuel the EGT will get up there...

Boost spikes to 34lbs quick, under WOT. Settles around 32lbs. I do have a extra set of intercooler hoses as spares.

I've been holding off on the exhaust, because I'm not sure it's going to lower EGT's on my truck. I only want to spend $$$ on things that'll help.

15-16 degrees timing correct for the lowest EGT while towing?

The boost is ok...your timing of 15 to 16 degrees is ok...One more question....Is it pouring alot of black smoke???because I'm running out of ideas...My truck is the same year with the mods below....Even with laser cuts it may hit 1200...with a full forward 10 plate....and mod AFC..

I get a fair amount (haze) of light grey/blue smoke at WOT. Black only when it first accelerates.
My timing has not been checked yet. It is still factory. I plan on getting it adjusted to 15-16. Do you think the high EGT's could be just from the timing?

Thats normal for the smoke level..mine is the same way.As for higher timing, as I remember it should not effect EGT,just gets a little hard on the head gasket, maybe someone could confirm this.Could it be weak injectors? Not holding the pressure back and just dumping to much fuel???What do you guys think??A IP going retarded?Cant see that being a problem.
