Leaky injector?

Every once and a while on the highway at WOT my truck will produce ALOT of white smoke. Does this sound like a leaky/cracked injector to anyone? It doesn't dump white smoke all the time but you can definitely see it in the mirror at the least. I really appreciate any help! My first Diesel so I'm still learning currently I should also mention the truck smells really rich at idle to me. I've had a couple of my mechanic buddies also mention it smelled rich.

If I need injectors would it be bad to put a set of these in a stock (for now) truck? http://www.pensacoladiesel.com/index...oduct_id=30095

Have you checked your timing? I'd do that before dropping coin on injectors. I'd also look at getting some higher end injectors than that. Can't expect a lot for $200 IMO.

No sir, Have not checked the timing yet (I'm sure it needs to be timed). I searched the forum a little bit on those injectors.. The folks who have purchased them seem to like them. I'm going to say though my injectors are probably OE with 266K on them.

Low fuel pressure will cause white smoke under load or high rpms.
How to check 12 valve fuel pressure

Do you still have the catalytic converter? They will load on light loads. When you give a load the build up will clear with a white/grey smoke.
Diesels always smell "rich" to some people.

Yeah, Still have the cat (Not for much longer). I'm not exaggerating when I say lot's of white smoke at WOT As in "That person behind me is probably not very happy" amount of smoke..

Nice write-up infidel! I'll have to check my fuel pressure also How hard is it to time a 12 Valver? I mean I have dropped some transmissions, and pulled a couple motors etc. How would you rate it on a 1/10 scale?

Timing isn't that hard, problem is it takes about $200 of special tools to do it.
For most folks it's cheaper to have someone else do it.
Just make sure they are familiar with these instructions> 12 Valve Timing
If they say they have a different method look elsewhere.

The Snap on part is SP-500, and was around $250. You can also time it using the spill port method, which can be done without the DV socket or the dial setup, but you will have to look into how its done. I've never seen it done before, so I don't know all the ins and outs to it.
