Knowledgeable Mechanic in Sugar Land/ Richmond, Texas area
Hi, I'm new here. I'm on my 4th Dodge Cummins at this time. It's a 1996 12-valve, a good old truck. I need to find a good mechanic in the Sugar Land, Texas or Richmond/Rosenberg, Tx area. I"ve worked with a couple of folks, but haven't found them sufficiently knowledgeable about the Dodge truck or Cummins motor. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it.

Howdy Mr. Tom,
No personal experience here, but a friend had good experience with an outfit called Houston Performance Diesel - they have a web site, I think it is performancediesel.com but you can find it easily if that is incorrect.
BTW if you do find a good mechanic to work on your truck, near Sugar Land, please post here! I am used to doing all my own work - but am getting too old for it, and most of my expertise is on things like GM cars from the 50's and 60's anyway.
Best of luck. Enjoy your '96 12-valve!
Regards,
Andrew

Thanks, Bobcat. I had seen their ad before, but they are a long way from here. I found someone over the weekend in SW Houston, and I'll see how they do. If they're decent I'll let you know.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Thanks! Southwest Houston is not that far from me. It would be great to have positive feedback - will check back here from time to time.

What I need is someone to look it over objectively and tell me what it needs and what is likely to break/wear out.
I've never put 300k miles on *anything* before, and I'm dumbfounded. The clutch is stock, the front brake pads went 217k miles, all I've put on it is oil and filters, tires, belt and hoses, a water pump, lift pump (it didn't need), fuel gauge sender, wastegate, starter (it didn't need - only needed contatcts but I was too-late smart), and some fuel hoses.
I want to keep running it - but don't want to run it into the ground. Suggestions?
Don't know what Mr. Tom is wanting done.
Regards,
Andrew
