KDP in progress, quick question

I am in the middle of tabbing the KDP on my 98, 73k mi and it was sticking out about an 1/8".

My question is, in the crank seal kit I got from Cummins, there is an extra seal that the instructions don't say anything about and I can't find where it is suppose to go.

It is the small black one on the right.

What is it and do I need it?

Thats the dust seal. I goes between the damper and the main seal. The Picture I have from TST shows the larger dia (lip) goes towards the main seal. Hope this helps.

I just tabbed my KDP and i got the kit from TST Products. It did not include this dust seal, but from what i have read online it can be used or it can be tossed. The original crank seal that i removed did not have this dust seal either. I would use it if you have it though.

I agree, if it came with it, better use it.
