KDP do it yourself

Okay, I ordered the TFT kit and I'm wondering how hard it is to do it myself?

I'm a 'change my own oil, replace a starter' kind of guy. Own my own tools, no specialty tools though.

No special tools needed. A 10mm wrench and socket will do most of the work for you. Hammer and a punch to change the seal, and thats about all you need.

That is what I did, and fan clutch. All mine had 290,000 miles and were original, so i figured better now that on side of road.

By idle bearings, do you mean the belt tensioner? If not, I don't know what you're talking about.

LOL, yep.

Don't celebrate just yet, there are more things with prices to make you wince than gifts like a 50 dollar WP.......

If you are removing the fan, remember that it has left hand threads.

I've read the TFT instructions about 10 times, went out and found the tools (you're right, it's not many) and I think I'm going to do it when the kit gets here.

The kit didn't come with a gear cover gasket, should I go to the dealer and get one instead of using only RTV to make a new one? I don't want oil leaks.

I'm old school who only knew gaskets for forty years.
RTV has been a godsend, works just as well, is less expensive and easier.
I rarely use gaskets now unless I have to.

You may want to re-loctite the timing case bolts and cam retaining bolts , I found them loose on a few motors I have done .

Okay, the Haynes manual (I know I know.... the FSM is on the way) says to install the crank seal after the cover is loosely bolted up; the TFT instructions say to install the crank seal into the cover while it's on the bench.

Any thoughts, advice?
