KDP Bites Again.

Stopped by my local Cummins shop on the way home this afternoon and they showed me the effects of a KDP that let lose on a 94.
The owner was... well, luck (all things considering).
The pin came out, hit the cam gear and broke through the gear casing.
The cam gear was fine, no damage to the engine internals.
However, the bill was going to be in excess of $2500.00. :-

I spent $300 at the same shop just a few months ago paying them to put the tab in to prevent that.
Makes me glad I did.

What a mess that causes.

Re:KDP Bites Again.

They usually charge 1500 to pull the cam and the casing is $500 or better.......I'd like to so one of those jobs.

At $9x.00 an hour, I would have to imagine that Jim is correct.
$1500 in labor and another $500 in parts.

Re:KDP Bites Again.

it always amazes me when i put in a bid for a job and my going rate is around $30-35.00/hr and an auto shops rate is almost triple that and people dont even blink twice when paying an auto bill..but seem to think that me getting 1/3 of the auto bill is ridiculous..and yes...i am an independent contractor

Hey,midwest, isn't that the truth,I am retired from a fire dept, and I also owned a dozer and construction buisness, and when people would ask how much a hour, when I sold it was 50$ they would inevitabley ask why so much, people just do not think when it comes to thier cars or trucks, anyway I just agree with you, self contractors get no respect, ha, goodluck, Rick
