Another KDP Bites the Dust
Another KDP Bites the Dust
Well after about 6 hours of hard labor my dad and my good friend finished the KDP fix on my friends 97'. We decided to do it the long way and remove the radiator, intercooler, fan, and timing cover. It's amazing how much stuff you have to remove to get to the dowl pin. Oh well it had to be done and my friend feels much better now that it is done. Next Saturday it's my trucks turn so wish me luck.

Joe

Congratulations. It does feel great knowing that that "thing " will not "get" you and the satifaction that comes with doing it yourself can't be beat. I went the long way also. I had leaks on the timing gear cover so I took the oportunity to inspect all the pieces that I took off. It gives you the chance to catch a rad hose that needs replacing, new seals, gaskets, touchup paint on the TG cover etc.

My buddy's truck had a bad timing cover gasket he didn't even know about until he seen the oil seepage. I think my harmonic balancer seal might be going bad so that's why we're going to tear the whole thing apart. I think while I'm at it we're also going to replace the theromstat which has never been replaced or checked before. Gonna have some fun this weekend thats for sure 8)

Joe
Re:Another KDP Bites the Dust
Well guys just finished doing my dowl pin and boy I am happy camper. The dowl pin on my truck was approximately half of the way out. Glad to have got it now than later when I need a new engine thats for sure. After examining my timing gears I was surprised to the great condition they were in and how clean they were. My truck has approximately 200,000 miles on it and the gears looked just as good as my buddy's 97 with 40,000 miles on it. Well happy truckin to all...

Joe
