Just checking if this is "gelling" or just cold combustion...

I jumped in the truck the other morning @ 15* F outside...

It ran weird about 1/5 of a mile... when the turbo spooled, smoke (bluish gray) would come out of the tailpipe.

I didn't allow the engine to warm up at all because I was running late, but after it warmed up a bit, 4 minutes, all was clear...

Sounds like cold cylinders. Did you have it plugged in?

If you haven't advanced the timing any, I would, it really helps when its cold.

Sounds like it was just cold. Jelled fuel would cause the the truck not to run at all, b/c little or no fuel would get to the injectors.

I'd personally get a timer set to 3-4 hrs ahead of when you leave, and plug it in anytime it falls below freezing.

For me, easier starting, less strain on batteries and having some heat in the engine, snow melted windows really is worth any cost in electricity.

Everyone else is right though, timing advanced really helps when cold, not to mention, during the summer lower egts and better fuel economy.
