Exclamation Intercooler Hose

Ok so I was under the hood of my truck the other day, and I heard a whistle, (not the turbo kind So I reved it up to eh about 2000rpms and shut it off real fast. I then found that the hose on my intercooler rubbed through on the side! I took it off, and it is just a long rub through on it. It is on the passenger side, its like a 45 degree elbow type of deal. Right when it makes the bend by the radiators. I thought, eh ok, Ill check the Dodge dealer for one, cant be that expensive. ha. He said $152.98. My heart skipped a beat! Holy Jeez Man! $152 bucks for a small elbow??? I said hell with that. I took it off and taped it up, and bent the piece that rubbed on it away, and re-installed it. Took her out on the road, and the pressure blew the tape out surprise surprise. Does anyone know where I can get one cheap? Even a used one is cool. With this gaping hole, I have little or no boost, it all leaks out. I can hear the loud blowing when i go up a hill and floor it. I cant stand it. Help me!

Piers has heavy duty replacements for about $70 a piece.

use rubbing alcohol or hairspray to help slide them on. they're a lot stiffer than stock, but they're also a lot stronger.

same thing happened to me on the driver's side. I notched the fender down there and bent it out of the way. it's fairly common.

Ive wondered if you can use a quality industrial rubber hose from Goodyear or the likes. We have some at work that is steel wire reinforced and up to 1/4 thick wall. You can but T bolt clamps also at a good industrial supply as well.

you could, but these are pre-formed, and they're not the same diameter at both ends.

Piers boots can be a PITA to install. He even says so (and laughs). Your best bet is to remove the tube coming off the turbo and start from the intercooler and work your way up to the turbo. Hairspray works good for some lubrication. A small diameter oil filter wrench fits the tube to turn it and get it lined up. Leave all the clamps loose until you get everything lined up. Have fun.

I would have to go with the ones from Piers, I have had luck with getting them a bit more flexible with hot water, then the Hairspray. Goodluck,,Rick

I've used aerosol 100% silicone lube, no heat, to get Piers boots on, no problem. Once it dries it helps to stick them on.

Hmm...what about good ole' WD-40? haha. I like that stuff, works for me. Starting from the elbow up is a good idea. Although I got it off once, and tried the tape thing and got it back on ok. I wil have to see how it goes. Thanks

I installed a Banks Power System Plus (or whatever its called). Great power gains but I can't keep the hose on. Every once in a while when boost jumps up it blows the hose off. Need to find a way to keep those babies on. Nerve racking to be pulling a grade pulling 9-10 k and try to pass and have that hose blow off. Leaves you hanging, is a little embarassing as well. Its getting to the point that I'm afraid to get out of the slow lane in case it blows. But if it does stay on watch out cause she will realy go. Love the extra power.
