Installing a block heater

My truck has never had a block heater, I'd like to install one.
I assume that I need to remove a freeze plug to do so.
Can anyone point me to the location for the heater and how to do it?

They all came with a block heater, sure you just haven't found it because it doesn't have a cord?
You should find the heater a few inches below and to the rear of the bottom of the oil filter.

Hmmmm.......Well I bought this truck from my mother after my dad passed. She never mentioned it and I've never seen him plug it in.
I'll have to look to see.
The new ones that I've seen on the lots don't have one. It's an option you can add on for around 50-90 bucks but the dealers (at least in central TX) haven't been ordering them for their lots.

The new ones on the lot also have a heater screwed into the block, but they don't come with a power cord. I think they started deleting the cord in '05.

12 valves and 24 valves all came with a heater and cords. Open the hood, you should see the end of the cord dangling behind the bumper just to the passenger-side of the intercooler. It should still have a protective cap over the prongs.

Hmmmm I'll have to check that out.
I looked on the side of the engine yesterday where Infidel had suggested but couldn't see anything at all. I must not have been looking in the right place cause I couldn't even see a location to put a heater.
I'll be pi$$ed and pleased if I find a cord there. Pi$$ed that I didn't know it until now but pleased that I don't have to install one!!!

I'm plugging that sucker in tonight just for grins. Maybe my heater will get warm before I get to the office this time.

Ok another question;
If they all come with block heaters but no cord what would I need for a cord if I bought a new truck. Does the heater have a place to plug a short ext. cord to the heater or would I need to get like a replacement appliance cord to tie into the heater?
(or make my own)

The heater end of the cord has it's own special configuration, not any old cord will do.
All the heaters are the same, even on the new ones.
Cords are available from the the dealer$$$, genos garage or ebay.
If I recall the ebay cords are less than $10.

Is that true between manufacturers or just all Cummins/Dodges.
I've got an employee who has a newer Ford with no block heater.......or she thinks she doesn't have one.

I looked at some online pics and the cords look to be identical.
Not sure if they are but on a Ford parts site they're listed for 15 bucks.
I don't need one ()but something tells me that I'll be installing one on a Ferd pretty soon.

Sort of makes sense that the cords are the same.
From my searching for a block heater for a tractor I learned that there is one company that appears to have the monopoly on all types of block heaters.
