Id of pump and injectors??

I need help folks. Were talkin 95 4x4 5 speed, cat converter equptd. The lack of power is starting to get to me. How do you know if a truck has a 160HP pump? Whats the diff from a 215 pump I hear about? internals only or injectors also. I cant swing $1500 for injectors and a pump massage at the moment. Where can I find some detailed instructions on fuel plate install instructions. Nobody here will check my timing, one guy says its a waste, the other says he only does it internally thus the $900 job. Can anyone reccomend a decent upgrade of injectors without going too overboard??
Thanks all.

Well, check your engine id plate, on the timing cover. It will have a bunch of info, including the hp rating of the engine.

The guy who says pump timing is a waste, well, you know who NOT to take your truck to for maintenance.

Also, make sure you write down the engine ser # / engine id # from that engine id plate, and put it in your wallet. If you ever order anything from cummins, you will need those numbers.

I also recommend putting the VIN # on that same piece of paper, as a lot of dealerships won't look up parts now without that.

The TST website has some good instructions on plate swaps, as does this site if you do a search.

For your ride,

some 370 injectors, pump timing (to more efficiently burn the fuel and get better performance from your ride) and some 191 or laser cut valves will really put a kick in your pants. Problem with the 370s, is simple you might put out too much smoke, as far as plates go, it all depends on what you want to use it for, towing or haulin or racing, i have several plates of pics in my gallery, a 0, a 100, and a banks plate. Im currently running the banks plate, and its decent, 900 bucks for internal timing? perhaps a complete rebuild might cost that but to check it? i dont think so...

if you need more help or further reading ( u might have read this before)

here is my newbie tutorial

Well, Im not a nubie but I gotta admit I havent done much pump tampering other than on my 93. The pump shop removes the pump, reseals, does some internal mods?? and timing for $900 or so. the rebuild is only a couple hunderd more. They say the key to good burn is not so much more fuel ,but better atomizing. This is why they dont really like plates due to to much smoke. I dont want a race wagon, just to get up the Cuesta grade towing 4500 lbs better than in 3 gear at 40 mph. Its downright imbarasing having some dude in a honda element towing a good sized enclosed Uhaul passing me like im standing still. Guess its time to raid the bank account again

Im a gambling kinda guy, maybe I should try for 2 out of 3. I smoked one engine already. Theroretically if you took a 160 and turned it into a 215 there should be no problem eh? otherwise DC woulda put a pyro in at the factory. NOT. alright, guess Ill have to give in this time.
