Hey guys, I might be trading my dad for a 93 gmc 1 ton 2wd crew cab dually and if i get the truck (within a couple of months hopefully) im goin to try my luck at repowering it with a cummins and would some day like to be able to do a solid axle swap. Thats where i become lost, I have no idea what im talking about when it comes to doing a axle swap. Could you guys hep me out??

if you're planning on playin hard, get a gm dana 60. if it's just to have a big truck, get a gm dana 44. you can get them in 8 lug from a 3/4 ton truck or swap a 1/2 ton axle to 8 lug. reason is a d44 can be had for next to nothing. these days, a d60 can cost almost a grand.
now that you have an axle, you need to mount it. definetly go with leaf springs since they are simple and easy to set up. no offense, but it doesn't sound like you need to be setting up 4links. www.diy4x.com has some good spring hangers that you can bolt right on.
steering is the last piece. definetly go with a crossover setup. www.offroaddesign.com has good stuff but are a little over priced. www.sky-manufacturing.com is another good one. good luck and post pics.

Depending on which drivetrain you go with will determine what axle you want. If you go with a first gen dodge setup with a passenger drop t-case, a GM or old dodge axle is what you will want. Those are all low pinion king pin axles. If you go with a 2nd gen drivetrain with a drivers drop t-case, you'll want either a ford (preferred) or a second gen dodge axle. Ford is a high pinion (better driveshaft angles), king pin up until 91, balljoint to 97. Either manual or vacuum lockouts, and servicable wheel bearings. Newer dodge is CAD, balljoint and unit bearings, so I wouldn't even look for one.
I agree with Tate, If you can find a ford D60 its reverse rotation(high pinion) for strength and will give you the driverside output you will want plus lockout hubs. You can get a ford np205 transfer case or any newer transfer case as they mostly all are drivers side outputs. I dont think the ford D60 is set up for coil springs like the ford D44 is but it would be easier to do leaf springs.

NV241's hold up under power in our trucks, see no reason to ditch them to go to the 205 with a worse low range than the 241. And he could always use a Ford 205 anyway. His truck is a driver drop t-case as it sits now, so I'd imagine it would be easier to keep the same style t-case in it.
he's starting with a 2wd. in reality, there's 300 different combinations he could do and all would work great. all of the solid axle swap "kits" are going to use a gm axle. a 241 or a ford 205 and a ford d60 would be fine and so would a gm 205 and 60.
for driveshafts, it depends on what tcase you choose. a 241 has a slip yoke rear output. i would swap it to a fixed yoke output with a 1350 yoke to match your 14blt rear axle. the front output on whatever tcase you get will probrably have a cv flange. if you don't get the front driveshaft with the tcase, you'll have to either find one somewhere else or buy the cv joint from a driveshaft shop. any driveshaft shop can make these shafts for you.

Looks nice! I always like to see people using stuff that Sky makes. His parts are just about as beefcake as can be. Prices are pretty good as well. He definitely stands behind his products as good as anyone.
But hey. What do I know? I just left his shop an hour ago!
