How to seperate trans from transfer...?
Hi guys I am trying to remove a transfer case from a 1996 2500 4x4 ...I removed all the lines , wiring , linkage , driveshafts , casebolts .
It still will not come off , the case is lose but seems to be connected.
I even wraped a strap around the case and hooked a ***-a-long for light pulling help ..no go ...am I missing something ...
Thanks
Greg

When I watched the boys in the shop take it off it just slid off. They had to "bounce" it alittle.
Tranny in neutral? Missed a bolt?
Man, I'm out of ideas.
Bump.

Re: won't come off
I did the bounce thing ...I did not try trany in neutral ..But that really should not make a differance... I use a big rubber malet to wack it ... I slaped it silly and it still would not budge .
I even used a ***-a-long to pull back on the unit ...all the bolts are off , there's a 1/8 gap all around , seems like it's the driver side more to the top thats holding it .
This is the truck I am parting out ... it was sitting for a while maybe the splines are rusted to the trany shafted ...
I did not know if the was a "e" clip inside the pto access cover or some special trick I'm missing .
Thanks
Greg
