How Much HP To Smoke A New Clutch??

Ok the prev. owner put in a new clutch 2 weeks before selling to me. Well I might need to slide my plate back some cause I can get her to slip with my foot in it. Just wondering if anyone knows what kind of HP range would do this, as we don't have any dyno's here in hicksville So I'll be shopping for a new clutch before I do anything else, heard south bend is the way to go, anyone know where to get a good deal? What about install? that tranny looks awful heavy

Clutch life and slippage is pretty much driver dependent. Once a clutch gets soft where it slips under load it is shot and should be replaced.

Here is a source of pretty decent clutches for a lot less than a South Bend unit, but if you are going to hot rod go with South Bend. http://www.dialaclutch.com/lukclutch.htm

would it be wise to upgrade the input shaft at the same time? I hear about lots of people doing this.

Mine was somewhere around 250 or so. But only in 4th or 5th when getting on it hard.

Depends on how much power you are planning or making (it is very addictive) and how you drive regarding the input shaft.
