How loud is your Engine?

I've been listening to me ctd latley and at certain rpm's it seems like it has a slight knock. But it could be my timing maby, I'm not sure. What kind of sounds are you guys hearing out of your ctd? Do you hear what could be considerd by a gasser a rod bearing knock. Do ctd have knock sensors? Thanks!

when driving beside concrete barriers on the interstate, I hear a slight but steady knock type noise at almost any engine speed.

It has done this since I bought it many miles ago. I have just decided that its suppose to sound that way, as it hasn't exploded yet.

These are just noisy, rattly motors(and i like it that way) In the cold weather mine seems to have a slight knock at a certain rpm, but i have heard others do the same as mine, so I dont worry about it. They are tough old motors.

Mine too makes an odd noise at different RPM's. Sounds like the valves need adjusting real bad. Noise didnt go away with valve adjustment though. Heck, I think my truck makes different sounds in each gear I can put the selector in. But as stated before, It hasnt blown up yet!

Yea I figured it was just the compression, but nobody around me has a ctd so I can't compair sounds. My neighbors might not like it to much at 5 a.m. though. Startn' it up in the morning is my favorite part of the day. I guess I'm a bit **** about changes in sounds, I rarely turn on my radio just so I can hear the sound of the engine. Thanks

i have a knock at idle that concerns me from time to time. more of a *ting* than a knock. its probably me thinking i hear something that isnt there, or it really is there and isnt of concern.

if it is a problematic knock that i hear, i dont forsee myself tearing into it to find out. that may sound goofy but its a risk im assuming at the moment, until funds and time allow me.

i think (read: hope) its just the nature of the beast.

You are always going to hear different sounds at different times, weather, alt, temp, rpm and such...

These engines don't throw rods or bearings...

They make all kinds of small noises to the trained ear...

Valve will float easier after timing increase. It will sound like the valves need adjusting but they dont.... the exhaust valve is trying to stay open when it should be closed.

also, after increasing timing, the truck will be a lot more "clankier" at low rpms especially when cold. it will almost sound like an early model 7.3 Powerjoke.
