How in the world do I install the head ????

I spent last 2 hours trying to put head on top of motor while in the truck.
When I removed it I bent 3 pushrods, and I thought I was a little careless, but now I cannot get the rear to fit over the 4 new rear pushrods.
And I have to keep rocker blocks and long hed bolts on it otherwise I'll never get them in.

Am I missing something ? I would hate to pull motor just to install head.

unbolt your cab mounts and put the cab on 4x4 blocks. that's what i done, but i had a blowed head gasket.i took everything off the head though and everything went right back in without to much difficulty. one thing gave me grief though i forget exactly what it was.

Try removing the two plastic plugs under the cowl panel and feed the push rod up through the hole and manuver it out thats what there for i think its like the last three you need to do that with goes the same for installing them. Dont waste time rasing the body

You know, I think I am getting too old.....why in the world I didn't think of that....

...and sorry for the title, I was a little "exhausted", now after a couple of "brewskys" I fell much more relaxed, I will try again tomorrow.

...I can't believe I didn't think of that....

you would not think of the plugs in the top of the firewall if you did not know they are there.

Ummm... You won't bend any pushrods, if you pull them before pulling the head.

Ummm...I would have been happy to do it that way but there was no room to get them off

Remove the head and you'll know what I'm talking about....

that is what we are talking about, there are many on here that have removed the head. you pop the plastic plugs in the firewall that are right above the push rods. and some times you even have to turn on your wipers to get the arms in the right position to get them out.

I took the whole wiper transmission out then the rubber plugs .When the head goes back on it takes about 2 minutes to get it set on the dowels,if you have 2 guys. Then you put in the headbolts along with the pushrods and rockers.Torqueing the bolts is what takes all the time. You definately need to pull the hood to make it alot easier so you can stand in the engine compartment to install the head.

Ive done worse! Ive put the whole engine together on the stand installed it in the truck and realized as i was putting the front of the truck together that i never timed the cam! and anyone has ever had a CTD apart they know the lifters go in through the bottom of the engine. So im like !@#$ Luckily i was able to take 12 slightly over sized wooden dowl rods and tap them into the tops of the lifters then rubber band them together and slide the cam out and time it properly. Moral of the story everyone makes mistakes and stuff happens
