how can i haul a dually with blown rear end?

Im going to look at a 98 tomorrow that seller said ran out of rear gear oil. Ext cab 3500 4x4 12 valve 440,000 $3000. Back doors would be nice for the baby seats and my current $3000 truck would make a good parts/backup.

Should i take the duallies off and use a tow dolly or trailer? I dont have access to a trailer with no sides like a car hauler. Need to go 70 miles or so. Any ideas y'all?

Would it fit on a uhaul car hauler?

Take the diff cover off and pull a gear or whatever needs to be done to make the rear free spin?

No idea for sure, but my educated guess would be that the gearset took the brunt of the damage, so the rear wheel bearings "may" be fine. If that's the case, you could remove the rear axleshafts and flat tow it. If that's the case, you may also, theoretically, be able to remove the rear axleshafts and the rear driveshaft, put it in 4WD, and drive it with just the front axle engaged. You would have to plug the rear output on the transfer case so it wouldn't lose its oil.

This is just thinking out loud, the above ideas would be pretty risky unless you have a good look at those rear wheel bearings first, to know the extent of the damage. You would also need to cap off the rear hubs somehow so the bearings wouldn't lose whatever lubricant they had.
Good luck with what you decide.

Good ideas and thanks torque fan but since im less experienced in those areas i better get it facing rear on a dolly or trailer. Not to mention ill be running down to look at it alone tomorrow. Anyone know if this size rig would fit on the uhaul equipment?

If it ran out of oil, the wheel bearings are likely ok, since they won't drain back into the tube. Go buy a sheet of 1/8" gasket material and make some to go over the flange of the hub and bolt it on. You could run some oil into the tube and hope it runs back to the hubs. You won't over oil them.

It will fit on a uhaul car carrier but they will tell you it's too heavy and won't rent it to you.

Thanks for the help guys but its a no go. It was a beat up grail truck but the joker was trying to sell the truck that was in his step dads name. Step dad was no where to be found and could not even get him on the phone. He also wanted me to sign his step dads name on the title. Hilarious! I dont believe that would have been a legal transaction and since I wasnt going to leave with the truck I had to walk. He even offered to give it up for 2K.

It'll fit on a Standard width 18 foot trailer, just let the outer duals hang behind the trailer's fenders.
Double check the width between the fenders.
If it's too narrow, stair step some 2x6s the length of the fenders and load it on until it's past the fenders.

I've hauled MANY Dually E/C and even a longbed '84 Dodge Crew Cab or 2 on my 17 footer.

Here's a pic to prove it, with an '05 Quad on my 17 foot trailer.

Nope. Green and silver. I made a pest of myself while I was at your yard--poking my nose into all the parts trucks and asking questions! I drove down from S.W. Missouri.

Cromulius, you did right to stay clear.
The minimum that could happen is that you would have the truck confiscated be the law. Or , even charged with receiving stolen property
