Help please!!!
My truck starts and shuts of imediatley. There is a lever next to the linkage that if I hold open will let the truck run.
Any idea what this could be???
Thanks!!!

The lever has the fuel shutoff solenoid attached to it, when cranking it gets power to pull the solenoid up, then with the key in the run position it should have power to hold the solenoid up. Check the connections at the battery to make sure they are all clean, sometimes corrosion causes lack of amperage. Also there is a relay for the solenoid that may be acting up. If you turn the key on, you should be able to pull up on the lever and have it stay up, if not, then you need to check for power.
Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
I just replaced the batterys a month ago and cleaned the terminals.
Where can I find that relay?
I dont think its the ignition switch as it swings, starts and shuts right off. But if I hold the lever open, it will run.
How can I check for recall work done on this truck?
If it is the fuel shutoff solenoid, how much do they run and how hard to change are they???
Thanks!!!

Easy to replace, I just had mine off to replace the rubber boot that was badly deteriorated. Unplug the electrical connection, remove 2 screws holding it on and remove the spring pin that holds the solenoid plunger to the injector pump.
Easier to replace than pay for, I have been told they seldom go bad and are often replaced unnecessarily. Over $200 part so be sure you do a search on this site to look at relay or fuse that might control current to this solenoid.
If it is your solenoid it's a 20 minute job even for a dink like me.

The solenoids rarely go bad, the problem is usually corrosion on the blue wire attached to the driver's side positive battery connector or the relay.

Hey guys, I installed the relay and its still not working.
If I take the relay off and jump pole 87 over to pole 30 you can hear the plunger go off and I can start the truck.
Any ideas??? You think its the solenoid???

If the solenoid is pulling up when you jump terminals it must work.
Sounds like no power is getting to the relay. This could be caused by the blue wire at the battery or the brown wire from the starter to the relay being corroded or disconnected.
