help cant get wheel studs back in

I have a 96 2500 4x4. I had a broken wheel stud and was in need of new rotors.
I removed the stub axel and then got the old rotor off by pounding out the old wheel studs. The problem I am having is getting the new wheel studs back in. Do I have to take them to a shop to have them pressed in or is there some other way to get the studs back in. I used my 10lb sledge and a punch but they would not go all the way back in. any suggestions would be a big help.
thanks John McHorney

Just put a lug nut on them and a stack of washers and tighten them in with an impact gun. You'll be able to hear the change in pitch of the impact gun when they are seated. It would be better to use an old lug nut if you have one, because it might distort the seat of the nut a bit, but if you only have the ones that came off it sholdn't be too big of a deal.

I've never had a problem with a hand sledge and punch, have done dozens of them.
Makes me wonder if you got the wrong rotors and the holes are too small.

Bill, I'll bet he's not supporting the hub/rotor assm around each stud while hitting it. If he's just got it sitting on concrete they won't get tight enough. This is just a guess though.

When I put the studs in the rear hubs, I put the hubs inside the house over night and threw them on the old shop heater to expand the hub some.
I also put the studs them selves in the freeezer overnight and took them out of the freezer as needed.
I used some vasaline to help them go in. went in like a breeze.
