Help - Can't get the Crossmember Back In!

I had my 47RE out for a TC and VB upgrade, and now I can't seem to get the crossmember support back in. When I took it out it just took a few knocks towards the back and it came right out.

Any advice is appreciated as I'd like to get this truck going again soon.

Thanks.

Use a porta-power to push frame outwards just slightly. Thats they way tranny shops do it. I've done it also.
Or try it at different angles with a BIGGER hammer.
Hope that helps. let us know if you need more.

sometimes getting the xmember to go as far up,,,, and bringing it from the top of the frame and hammering to the bottom sometimes works ,,, the space is sometimes greater at the top than the bottom,,, thats if you don't have a porta power ,,,, but the porta power is much easier,,,

4x4 post with a hole in one end just big enough for a bottle jack shaft... put the two up in the frame and spread... Easy as pie

Really should not be a problem. The X-member will slide in from the front...one side up and then the other. It doesnt look to be the proper way, but it is.

I'll try sliding it in from the front and if that doesn't work move on to more persuasive methods. It did not want to come in from the back the way I took it out.

I got mine in using a BFH, three sets of eyes and hands (me, my bro-in-law and my dad) and a lot of patients. We went in from the rear, working both sides a little at a time.

I buffed up the xmember and the mouning surface of the frame. Thin layer of grease and came in from the top. The frame and x-member are tapered to saddle in the frame from the top. Straight in isn't gonna work.

Got the crossmember in yesterday with the help of a couple of 2x4's nailed together and a bottle jack. Spread the frame and it dropped right in.

Today, I am enjoying my Goerend Triple Disc TC and VB Can't believe how tight it is compared to the stock TC, just a touch on the throttle and the truck moves! Tommorow a #10 plate, 3k GSK and AFC kit.

I don't know if this thread is dead or not, but you don't need to use any jacks or spreaders. The crossmember ends are tapered so it will only drop down from the top. I had the same problem and finally after measuring it figured it out. Once I had it positioned correctly, it slid right in.

Hopefully this saves someone else some hassle and doesn't spring the frame.

I used two pieces of all thread through the mounting holes in the crossmember and an impact wrench to bend the crossmember some and now it goes in and out with ease
