Head Stud Install...yeah i know again
i know there are many posts about the head stud install and i have read alot of them. if i am relacing just one stud at a time what do i do? the arp directions say to tourqe and then losses nuts 3 times and then tourqe to 125lb one last time. is this all i have to do? i have read many threds that have said to tourqe drive retourqe then drive another so many miles and thes so on and so forth. im guess im looking at direct instruction on what to do. what do i have to take off of the motor to get to the studs? just the valve covers. and then there is the question about can i just grind the inside of the valve covers instead of getting the rockerarm pedistals machined? i know that these are the revised studs that say you have to machine the rocker arms but how many say that you have to?
i think you should have the rocker pedastalls milled like they say to. i know its a pita but i chose to do it on my truck, the new studs are actually shorter than the old ones so if you choose not to you will have less threads engaged in the block. you will need to take off the valve covers and the injector lines. as far as torque procedure i took mine to 15-35-55-65-75-85-95-105-115. then idled the truck and let warm and then cool then took to 120 drove easy for a week then to 125 then drove easy for a week, then to 130 drove easy for a week then re-checked to 130. with that said that was with a new gasket and o-rings. i dont think all that would be needed for a gasket thats already seated.
can i take all of the rocker pedistals out without having to take the head off? and be ok reusing the stock head gasket? also how hard is it to take off the rocker pedastals?
