Head gasket or cracked head/block?

Hey guys, new to the diesel thing but I was hoping I could get some opinions and info. I've read a lot about replacing head gaskets but just wanted to post this to make sure I knew what was going on.

I have a 95 2500, its got 185,000 on it and runs perfect. I replaced the thermostat because it was stuck open. I put it all back together and it leaked a tiny bit from the bottom. So I was driving last night and I saw that it started getting hot and so I let off of it and the temp was swinging between almost redline and 190. I was 30 sec from my house so I got home and turned it off. I m pretty sure it got low on coolant and got hot.

I fixed my leaking thermostat today and drove it again and when I got home I noticed there was still coolant leaking and it looks like its coming out in between the head and block on the passenger side near the thermostat housing. I m really hoping that I didn't crack the block or head. I ve heard that the blocks and heads hold up pretty good but I have no idea if thats true. Anyone have any input on wether its easy to crack them?

Welcome to the forum Lostcreek21. You have come to the right place for good info...!!! Fill in you signature when you have time so people can see what type of truck you have, mods, ect. As for the coolant leak is it dripping or pouring out? Do you have any noticeable water in the oil? Any oil in the coolant? How low was your coolant today after you drove it?

That's a normal location for HG leaks to develop. Clean everyhting up really well to be sure that's where it's coming from.

You may be due for some work.

more than likely its not a cracked block, if anything major its a headgasket issue just clean and make sure. that is a common place

You might consider going thru the head bolts sequence to make sure none have weakened and backed off.
