Hard to shift

I got a problem. I have my NV4500 and when I want to shift into second at the stop light, it does not want to go. I have the southbend con O in it with about 30,000 on it. I dont pull, so I was wondering what would make that transmission do that, or is it the clutch. I have a 115,000 on the truck. Let me know thanks

Re:Hard to shift

Never done a truck manual trans but, when my bikes get hard to shift it is always either the clutch adjustment or dirty fluid.

Re:Hard to shift

Same problem here. My 6 spd is hard to shift as well. I have the South Bend con o clutch also. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch because my reverse grinds when shifted into sitting still. Since theres no synchro for reverse to start with I'm guessing it's the clutch not fully disengaging. I'm thinking about replacing the slave cyl to see if that solves it since they are not adjustable... if that doesn't do it I might just have to find a different clutch for my truck.

Re:Hard to shift

If the clutch is dragging the slightest little bit you will have trouble shifting. Maybe just bleeding the slave would do the trick? Do they have a bleeder?

Re:Hard to shift

No. The dodge clutch isn't bleedable. The units are sold pre-filled from the factory. I'm sure you can find a way... but dodge didn't make it to be bleedable.

Re:Hard to shift

On my old 96 12 valve i had the same problem..first thing dealer did..change oil...no help..got worse..once it got so bad i had to shut the truck off to get it in gear then start the truck..made a nice grinding noise and i was able to make it the rest of the 300 miles home...they then took it serious and dropped the tranny and found the input shaft and bearing were toast...all under warranty...hope yours is covered
