getting a 2ng gen auto tranny or stick?
So i'm getting a 2ng gen and was wondering if i should go auto or stick. Is there anyway to spool up the turbo on the line with an auto? and also, when replacing the tranny is an auto/stick switch possible?

I was pretty adamant about buying a stick truck, couldn't find one and settled for an Auto. Now, I prefer my Auto, especially in traffic. Add to that you can get one built pretty decent for 4K or under, and thats the way I am staying.
Mine builds boost just fine by holding the brake and matting it, at least until the brakes wont hold any more.

If you wanna go fast, get an auto.
If you want to make extreme power, get an auto.
If you want mild power with mainly just a clutch upgrade, go w/ the 5spd, but you can't powershift these things either.
You can build boost by putting your foot on the brake and stepping on the pedal, however be very careful with how many pounds of boost you launch with or you could be kissing your tranny goodbye.

5spd's are alot cheaper to rebuild, they usually stand up to alot of abuse. If u buy a truck with a stock auto, plan on $3k+ right away to upgrade the trans or u'll hate the auto. My truck came with a auto, and I swapped in a 5spd. Sometimes I regret it in traffic, but open roads and towings are fun. with that said, i'll probably rebuild the 5spd once then save up for a nice auto to swap back in a year or more depending how the 5spd's doing. Either way, get a truck with 3.55 gears, I think that would make a 5spd so much better to drive even in traffic.

A 96-98 manual truck will have the good 215 pumps. i looked and looked for a manual truck but couldn't find one and got a good deal on mine. I got Daves trans also and it is holding up fine. If your wanting to drag race get an auto if you are pulling get a manual. my 2cents

My '97 came with the auto. With 165000 miles I knew that pulling and mods would kill it. So 13 months later at 200000 miles I had AllStar in Denver build a trans for me. I also installed one of their multi disk converters. I swapped in 4.10's because I'm about 20k lbs loaded up. I've always liked a stick, but prefer the auto in traffic. Oh yea, I've also added a TC lock up switch. (With this new auto, I just stomp on it and let it shift while it's spinning the wheels!) I know, that's so childish!
