fuel problem
fuel problem
I have been having this problem for some time now but is just not as bad all the time. I can put my truck in gear or just turn the steering wheel and and the rpm's drop way down.(couple of hundred) At times in gear the truck will die. Idling its fine only when the motor is under a load does it seem like it starving for fuel. If its in gear and you pat the gas most of the time it will die. I put new fuel lines on a couple of months ago. I was having this problem before I put the lines on it. After it worms up it doesn't die but the rpm's just drop a lot. Any thoughts will help. thanks
ok, let me just hijack this thread by saying than mine likes to start by giving it a little throttle, and then, if started cold, misses or sputters a little for the first second or two.

This might seem a little novice, but my truck was doing the same thing. I'd put it in gear and turn the wheels even a little and it would die. Turned out the lock nut on my idle screw was loose. The thing creeped down ever so slowly and I didn't even notice. I reset the idle to the appropriate RPM, tightened the nut, and haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps.
Ok the truck starts fine. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge in it wanting to get one. I had a friend of mine tell me tonight to check the idle. May try to bump it up to 750 or 800 rpms. Have to wait till this weekend the truck is at a friends shop welding up the cab (had a custom x-cab) and doing some little stuff.
Get it up to at least 750 in gear, AC on...... When I got mine, the Dealer had it set down for "that nice low Cummins idle"
It would do the exact things you are describing......... I finally got it set properly and it hasn't done it since.

I played with it some yesterday. Its about 700 now give or take a few. Gotta mess with it some more next saturday and try to get it set up some more. I've got my a/c compressor unplugged because it was wanting to lock up didn't have the money to fix it then while I was in collage. thats not very high on the list of things to fix since I got a new truck Lol.
