Fuel heater thermostat
Fuel heater thermostat
Hi All,
My Fuel heater "fried" itself last winter in the garage last winter. Lotsa smoke coming out of the hood
I did not planeon driving the truck in the winter, so I removed it from the prefilter assembly (It was sucking air anyways)
I picked up a new fleetgaurd heater assy for about 35 bucks cdn, I was going to get another 1/2" disk thermostat (similar to a coffe pot) mounted to the external prefilter housing, but I did not want to fry another heater because of an inadequate part in the system
So, on the hunt for a thermostat with the right temps to turn on and off, Not so easy... I ended up finding a thermostat that was hermetically sealed that just clipped on the fuel line to monitor temp ( I would have like a "in fuel" thermistor, but had to settle on this, similar idea to the stock system) The switch is a highly engineered piece of work from the local fridge repair place ( A defrost clip on thermostat) on at 35-40F off at 70. I hooked up a relay in the power line supplying the heater which the thermostat works to cycle power to the heater, as well I put a light in the circuit when power is supplied to the heater. I have tested for about a week and works great,
I have the ability to cut the power to the fuel heater with a switch if the light (power) remains on to long...just as a backup to my high teck thermostat
FYI only, Of course I am kidded at work that I can keep a side of beef under the hood as well at the right temperture
Cheers
