So we got our first snow finally, so i go to put my truck in 4x4 and i dont know if i didnt wait long enough or what but when i let the clutch out there was a very loud bang!! It did engage but now there is alot of noise comin from the front end when driving, like a bell ringing, and theres alot of vibration. It really vibs when i'm on the throttle and off of it, but if i'm maintaining speed or no load theres no vib!!! So i guess i'm wondering if anyone else has had any problems in the front diff and what i should be lookin for, planning on lookin at it this weekend, do i need to pull the cover? the way it banged dont think it would be a ujoint or cv joint, but will check everything i guess...thanks for any info.....

Maybe the CAD was slow to engage and when you released the clutch , it slipped in causing the sound. With a vibration under load, I'd be looking at possible front driveshaft damage from the shock load.

 

I would look at the front u joints up by the T case.
