Front Axle Seal Replacement
Front Axle Seal Replacement
So tonight I was walking in front of my truck and noticed the passenger side front tire had oil on it. Thought at first it was brake fluid, but turns out to be gear oil.
I found the axle seal for about $8, but I know that it is located by the CAD and may be a pain to do. Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure for replacing the seal or is there anything else that I might be overlooking?
The axle is filled about 3/4" from the fill hole, so it isn't an overfill issue. I think there may be a bearing of some kind on the passenger side axle too up by the CAD? Does that need to be replaced? I will probably try to dig into this on the 4th, so I just want to be sure that I have all the parts together before starting.
Thanks in advance!

Can someone confirm that I am thinking correctly?
1. Jack up truck and take off tire.
2. Remove Brake Caliper and tie out of the way
3. Loosen 4 axle flange bolts (use extention with power steering trick to break loose)
4. Remove CAD housing, slide collar onto middle axle shaft.
5. Remove axle stub
6. Pull old seal out (into the CAD area)
7. Clean out any debris in axle tube
8. Replace axle seal
9. Reassemble using reverse directions
Is this close?

It's been awhile but this is the one repair I let the dealer do because they charge so little, $125 per side. The mechanics hate it because they have to hustle to make any money.
