For 12 valve, gen2 trucks.... how often do you adjust your valves? What interval does the service manual call for?

Not sure what the manuel calls for but with almost 300,000 miles on the clock i have only adjusted 3 times and one of those times was due to the fact that I changed my injectors and turbo and timing (15.5%).

 

we adjust ours every 250,000 miles

 

I adjusted mine the first time at 25k miles, they needed very little.
Since then it's been every 100k and nothing was needed, it was a waste of time.
If you don't know the truck's adjustment history adjust them, otherwise wait a long time.

 

I did not know these engines had solid lifters, this has me worried- what on earth makes so much noise duirng the first 5 seconds after startup if its not the lifters? my 12V is very noisy until the oil pressure hits 40psi then instant quiet.

 

you are probably just hearing the tappets until oil gets to them
