found an air leak
found an air leak
So i put some compressed air into the fuel tank today. I got in between the frame and the tank and heard a hissing sound. Felt around up on top and the hissing sound changed a little. So Im pretty sure i have found a leak. There are two lines and some wires coming out of the top where the leak is. There is quiet a bit of oily feeling dirt near the leak which im guessing is fuel seeping out then mixing w/ dirt. Question. Would this leak cause hard starting? Low mileage? Is it worth the PIA factor to fix? I would either have to raise the bed or drop the tank. I have never done either of those two things.
Hello,
DO NOT put more than a couple(2) of pounds of air in a fuel tank. They will fail. That is psi. To get an idea multiply the square inches of the tank by the psi you put into the tank and you will get total force on the tank. Likely to be thousands of pounds if the pressure is high.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Pulling bed is not difficult. Six bolts or so, a few connections and fuel hoses. Four able bodied guys can easily set bed on barrels (before beers of course)
I think I'll pull the bed rather than dropping the tank. I just hope its for a good cause. I had the compressor set about as low as I could when i pressurized the tank. It's an aftermarket tank so i would bet it is a leak on the top of it rather than it being a vent.
