Flexplate troubles
Flexplate troubles
700 miles from home the flexplate gave up. I think it was the original one that came with the Dodge donor pickup. I did a search on "flexplate" on the forum and read almost every one. I was wondering if anyone knows the root cause of breakage, ie; bad dampner, acsessary drive putting to much load on crank, drive line vibrations being transmitted to flexplate by the TC or whatever. After being towed 100 miles and $400 later for a new flexplate from dealer it ran great, no unusual engine or transmission noise untill 150 miles later then it started to sound the same as just before it broke the first time. I pulled into a rest stop and pulled the inspection cover and found some more metal shavings, so I decided to limp back to my uncle's place by driving slow and not locking the TC. I am driving a cummins holset air compressor from the acsessary drive for my air ride suspension and the air over hydraulic trailer brakes. I also had the 4.56 axle so the EGT's wouldn't get too hot when pulling hills. The trailer weighs about 6k empty. My question is what would cause the new flexplate to possibly give out so early, as the old one had 250K by the time it broke. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. thanks
P.S. I usually have the 3.56 axle in light towing or driving and I dont drag race or sled pull
