Exhaust Brake, Can I
Exhaust Brake, Can I
I'm looking to fit a Exhaust brake to my truck, its a 1995 Gen2, so no ISB. I have been looking at the pac brakes and the like... the brake systems for the ISB are around $800,and for the gen 2 around $1200.... I hall around 14k so within the specs, and the trailer I pull has good brakes also, So I'm looking to use the exhaust brake for down hill only. So my question is, can I buy a used EB for a ISB but then modify the pump for a cable operation from the cab, so when I want to use the EB I pull a cable and release when no longer needed the EB ? or is their a special reason why I must have the $1200 Eb with the whistle which come with it ??
As the Gen 2 has no way of monitoring the TP or speed ( 5 speed NV4500).
Or an I just being a tight ***

You only want the brake to close when the fueling is at idle rpm or damage will result. Nice to have a switch that opens the butterfly if you give it some pedal otherwise you'll be pulling the cable a lot or making an expensive mistake.
Spend the money for the right brake. Get an inline rather than one that mounts to the turbo so you won't be limited in the future if you decide to upgrade your turbo.
