Engine Dies After Idling
Engine Dies After Idling
So I went to the parts store the other day and left the truck running with the AC on. When I got back in it and put it in gear it died. It cranked right back up and I was on my way. I went to another parts store and same thing. It happened all around town as I went to four or five different places. It was over 100 degrees that day and the needle kept going up around 225. It has never done that before. I'm doing a radiator flush this morning. Any ideas?
Yep, that's usually just an idle speed adjustment. Over the years, the idle screw wears a bit where the linkage rides on it, and the speed gets a bit lower.
The spec is 800 RPM in gear, with the a/c on, and a warm engine. 850-900 in park is usually right in the ballpark.
