Seems that my block heater is kapoot, when I plug it in there is no boiling noise and when you check resistance between the prongs on the cord there is no resistance, what is the cummins part number and cost ? Thanks

 

No resistance? I think that the connection goining to the heater may be bad. Would be cheaper to chack rather than putting a new heater in with the same problem.

 

Did u make sure that the cord is fully plugged into the heater??

There should be some resistance between the hot and neutral legs of the cord....if not, it could be the cord, the plug, or the heater itself.

 

More than likely the problem is the cord. Remove the cord, short the plug prongs together with a jumper then measure the resistance at the other end of the cord, it should be zero. Last time I bought a cord it was $23 from the dealer. The element is about the same price.

 

it could just be the male cord end I've had to cut off the factory one and replace it with a good quality one on one of my trucks

 

Ditto on the cord first,mine is a 94 and it gave out recently,like above put a better quality on when replacing,Goodluck and hope it is just the cord, Rick

Let me clarify....with the two prongs jumpered, using a Digital Volt Meter, you should see 0.01 ohms or thereabouts.....if not, its the cord or plug.
