Electrical problems -coincidence or not?
Electrical problems -coincidence or not?
Last week my gen light came on while driving. I turned off the truck and checked under the hood and all seemed fine. I left the truck off and checked it 15 minutes later and the wiring to the grid heaters was red hot and had melted the insulation on the wires near the terminals. I disconnected and isolated the wires to the grid heaters and have been driving it all week without problems.
Today I was driving and I suddenly had NO electrical power to anything. I stopped and turned off the truck, checked under the hood and the fuel shutoff solenoid had shorted and was smoking. I unplugged the solenoid and tied up the linkage. The truck started and all electrical systems worked fine. I drove it home and disconnected the batteries.
So twice in one week I have nearly burned my truck down.
I have the ability to troubleshoot and fix both problems if they are independent of one another.
Do I have a coincidence or an electrical gremlin?
If I have a gremlin is it starter solenoid contacts, ignition switch, wiring harness, or what?
Thanks for your help.

Yes I was able to repair these issues. After replacing the FSS and grid heater relays, I replaced the starter solenoid contacts. That was the original problem. Coincidentally this also solved my headlight flickering problem.
While the starter was out, I replaced my lift pump and did the fuel heater delete.
Since I was already dirty I-
Then I replaced all supply and return fuel lines.
Then I dropped the tank, rebuilt the fuel sender and replaced the fuel pickup.
I got everything I needed, plus some advice from LarryB.
