Electrical Issue

Hello everyone,

I have been searching throughout the forum furiously to find a solution to my problem and I think I might have. So I have been dealing with a fuel gauge that doesnt work (only says full but then empty after about 10 gallons), my trailor brake just stopped working and sometimes I have tranny shifting issues. So after checking out the forums I think I have some bad grounds. But here is the issue:

I cant find a diagram to tell me where the grounds are on my truck. Does anyone have a schematic or diagram or can even describe where some of them are? I read somewhere that there are quite a few.

Thanks

Edit: I forgot to also mention that I have been plugging in my block heater lately and it has given me a bit of a zap. First time I thought it was the residual water on it but the second time was this morning and I thought uht oh there is an issue. Well it blew the breaker on the cord so I further focus on a bad ground or something around there. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

your trailer brake controller will have its own ground, have battery power str8 form the battery and receive signal from the brake switch. as far as trans issues i wud do a voltage sweep on the tps with either a scan tool or a DVOM to start with. and the fuel sending units on the trucks are notorious for being garbage. mine reads E all the time....its made a home there. unplug it at the tank and jump the wires see what happens w the gauge

Thanks for the reply. I will be checking both the tps and the trailor break out today. I did a voltage check on the coolant when it is running and it shows voltage both running and a little voltage when off. Does this mean? I think there is a voltage grounding on my truck somewhere. Not sure though, ok, thanks and I will hopefully be back soon with some results but we are expecting 12-18" of snow and I might get called into work.....

Voltage in the coolant means electrolysis is occurring. when was the last time it was changed?

Changed it about 1.5 years ago when I did some hose replacements and coolant maintenance. So, should I change it out or find the place it is a problem and then change it?

I didnt get to the other checks but I will soon hopefully.
