Definitely goofed the lock up switch...

So, I took it upon myself to try and wire in the lock up switch via tst's directions. I did a little reading and found that switches with lights don't work as well, so I used one with no light. Had a positive, ground, and an accessory wire. I use a multimeter and found out which one turned on and off when the switch was moved, and tapped that one into B11/orange with black stripe. I then proceeded to ground the switch to the chassis and take it for a test drive. I made sure I jumpered the relay, and left it out per the instructions. Seemed like it worked ok for about 3 blocks, and then I almost stalled myself at an intersection regardless of switch position. I pulled over and unplugged the switch, and put the relay back in after removing the jumper. Made it back home just fine but it almost feels like I lost first gear. I have no overdrive anymore, and the lit button no longer lights or does anything.

What did I do? Please tell me it wasn't something expensive.

Thanks,
Shawn

Well, I fixed it. I untapped the ground wire instead of unplugging it. I think it was grounding on the chassis somewhere's but I haven't looked over the wire yet. That, or I wired it wrong. Can anyone confirm that I had it wired correctly? I forgot to mention that I never had a positive wire tapped anywheres, and I'm not sure if I was supposed to or not.

First off the early 96 model years have to have the PCM flashed in order for the switch to work properly. I believe the ones built between Sept 95 and Feb 96 need the PCM flashed, It has to be done at a Dodge dealer. Once done it will work right.

What happened at that intersection was the convertor never unlocked , regardless of the switch position, without it unlocking is like stopping a manual trans in gear with no clutch. I have the part number for the flash you need to get done,, let me look here and i will post it for you

Is that what happens when the ECM has the wrong flash? Will it just not unlock? Sounds like that's my problem. Maybe my parts guy can get me the hook-up. How much does the flash run?

Oh, and if I buy a lock-up controller do I still need the flash?

You'll have to have the flash no matter which method you use for lockup. About $50 at the dealer.

I had the same problem in my 96 it will lock up fine but never unlock. If you stall it out the tranny goes into limp home mode and locks in 2nd gear. Usally cycling the key will reset it if it dosent removing the negative battery cable will reset it. After the reflash the switch will work correctly.
