Dark side part III -- got the truck!
Thanks to all who answered my posts. The KDP has not damaged the timing cover. This weekend I'll do the fix. And by the way, I'm not gloating- just happy!
Heres what I have:
'97 Laramie SLT 4x4 long bed xcab
mickey thompson wheels w/new 285/75 Yokohama Geolander tires
camper special package- stab bar, aux springs
class IV hitch and low profile 5th wheel
glass tonnaeu cover
rancho 5000 shocks
auto trans
limited slip rear diff
nice aftermarket stereo and speakers
custom body side bars -I don't know what ya call them
chrome nerf bars
bed liner
k&n filter
clouded glass
seats always under cover
rubber floor mats
It needs:
new windsheild (I have buyback insurance so 100.00)
fuel return line
new cord to blockheater
fuel sender
My shop had it up on the lift and brakes are good, front end tight, etc.
I was worried about the KDP (who would'nt getting a used truck), but the oil on the front of the engine is from very slow seeps, and not from the danger area. I got my fingers in there and could tell it was build up from miles and miles of a little oil mixing with plenty of dust.
My intuition said here is a good truck. So I got it. Hell, it even came with the original window sticker and a haynes manual...
I am really pleased with what I got. You can get a nice used truck out here in Colorado, Most people keep them on pavement and that pavement is mostly smooth. Not much salt used here, and things dry out

So......now I guess I'm done stroken' ...

Congrats Jimmy! Sounds like a real nice truck. I've owned 4 diesel pickups now: 03 HO Ram, 05 PSD 6.0L, 02 PSD 7.3L, and 98 12V. By far the 12V is my favorite. Torque out the wazoo, perfect sound, and best of all... practically indestructible. I just wish I could work out a way to keep mine, but I absolutely have to have a truck with a bigger cab. Enjoy your new truck.
