current rating for block heater?
current rating for block heater?
Howdy,
What is the draw rating for the block heater? I want to bomb the plug. The new plug that I have is rated at 15 amps. Will that be ok or do I need a higher rated plug?
Thanks

Actually an inexpensive appliance timer will work just fine if you follow one simple rule. Do not use the off control. It will kill the contacts. Use it to start the block heater. You stop it by unplugging which saves the contacts. I've use the same timer for close to 10 years.
A 15 amp circuit will normally handle two comparable block heaters.

kimstart (who makes our heaters)also makes a t-stat add-on that will series onto the element via unplugging in the existing 110 vac wires from the element and plugging it in place, then screwing a heat transfer snap switch into another available water source which also is part of the supplied harness.
Use them all of the time on smaller standby generators.
