Thanks for the tip gmctd. I will definitely give that a try. Truck is down right now due to a bad turbo (still trying to find one or possibly rebuild mine). Anyway, the truck runs great, starts about as easily as a 12 valve does. Sometimes is cranks for a while when it is cold (like 10-15 seconds) with a light throttle before hitting and going. Other times is starts and fires almost immediately. I will try the bucket test ASAP to possibly give a little insight as to the cause of my problem.
Andy- were you talking about me possibly having a blown head gasket? It was replaced just before I got the truck. It could be that the head was warped slightly or possibly a defect in the gasket, but I would have hoped that they would have checked that a little better.

Thanks again,
John

If your truck has no studs and either it o-ringed/fire ringed, the parts you show in your signature and high boost would push out a headgasket.Remember,on a stock headbolt setup and no oring/fire rings all it owuld take to push the gasket out is boost levels at or above 40psi.Yes,if the head was not checked for being level, and the block to,it would also lead to a early failure.I have seen it happen and it may be something worth considering, however it should show in a compression test. When the truck is running, how much pressure comes out of the oil fill tube with the cap removed?.....Andy

Andy, it pumps it out pretty good from the oil fill tube. However, it also continues to pump it from the vent tube. Both are a steady haze. With the oil cap on, it is a heavier haze.

Install pressure plug in one injector hole, crank engine 3-5puffs, stop, read pressure - wait ~5minutes, observing rate of leakdown, if any
how can you possibly check leak down without assuring the valves are closed

Stop it on a 'puff', or pressure surge - piston is on the compression stroke then, right?
