Coolant leak

On the way to work this am, I had no heat all of a sudden. When I got out to look, there is a tube on the passenger side under the turbo. I had a leak coming out of there. Is that some kind of cooler? And, can I bypass it temporarily? I’m supposed to drive 250 miles to work at the mill tomorrow.
thanks in advance. 93 w250 drivetrain.

It sounds like you have an auto truck and one of the cooler lines rusted out.
You should be able to splice a length of hose to bridge the section of rusted out pipe as a quick fix.

I would not recommend bypassing the transmission heat exchanger as it dumps a LOT of heat that way out of the ATF.

Thanks. It’s -15 and I won’t be towing anything soon. I’ll see if I can patch it temporarily until I can order a new cooler. If not I’ll bypass it I have a trans temp gauge so I can keep an eye on it.

As long as you have a transmission temp gauge, you are not towing and the temp is cool out, I would guess you would be fine.

I am guessing it is the tube that runs to the cooler that rotted out, but I could be the heat exchanger / cooler itself.

It looks like it’s the cooler itself. It’s about 3-1/2” diameter and maybe 10” long

The other option is a self tapper and JB weld until a new one gets here.

I am not sure they sell those new.

If you can not find one I have a couple of used OEM ones in my shop.

I bought a truck years ago that had 2 self tappers on the bottom of a rusty oil pan, on a 24V.

Vermont, so not super close.

See if you can find one. If not, let me know.

Turns out it was the steel line. I used rubber hose to bypass the rusty line. Are these still available?

Google is your friend - I did a Google search for "dodge cummins heater lubes OR lines". Here are some results:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/154038028755
https://www.genosgarage.com/product/3912086-cummins-heater-tube/coolant-heater-hose

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...cement-280881/
Amazon Amazon

I didn't follow any of the links - I just copied and pasted the link addresses so I didn't see any details on theses.
