Converter solonoid switch
Converter solonoid switch
My Dad just bought a 97 with 57k on a rebuilt trans. We have both been running 1st gens for years, and find the lockup almost instantly when hitting OD annoying. I would like to put an interrupter switch in series with the lockup solonoid, so the lockup can be engaged when wanted. Switch on, normal operation, switch off, no lockup. This way the trans should act like a 518 until lockup is wanted. Has anyone done this, or know if it will work, and which wire to interrupt? Thanks
Actually you get a 3 way switch.
auto (PCM controlled) lock
off
forced lock

Follow the TST instructions for a general layout EXCEPT deviate as described below
Purchase a double throw (DT) switch with center off

Follow the TST instructions for a general layout EXCEPT deviate as described below
Purchase a double throw (DT) switch with center off
- Cut the orange/black wire leading from PCM B11
- Attach new wires to each of the cut ends and run both inside the cab to your double throw with center off switch.
- Attach the wire that is conected to the transmission side to the switch common terminal.
- Attach wire to PCM to either switch terminal.
- Run a jumper from the other switched terminal to ground.
Off is off. PCM cannot trigger lockup. Transmission will shift 1-2-3-OD or hold in 3rd if you use the OD lock.
