Computer is not communicating

My computer is not communicating with the tranny etc. They said it needs to be flashed. does that sound right??

any other thoughts?

They say that a lot and when the flash doesn't work they say that you need a new PCM.
Problem is usually neither but rather a poor connection at the PCM.
