clanks when put in R or D
when i shift into reverse or drive, i get a real bad clunk. I'm pretty sure its from the rear end. the ujoints are all good. ive heard this is not to uncommon. I hate it though. I should take it to a rear end place i guess. Im just afraid of the repair bill. but what can ya do.

Have someone put it in drive or reverse with you watching the drive train. See which part moves and makes the noise. My guess would be one of the U joints.

First ,check the u-joints.When your looking at the rear joint take notice to how much the shaft rotates, this could indicate some play in the ring and pinion. If so and if you know how to adjust it, find the factory backlash specs, sorry don't remember them off hand, and this should solve it. If you start to get a howl from the rear end while driving,it's usually the ring, pinion, or carrier bearing.
