CAT & Straight Pipes

I have a question about cutting out the CAT when straight piping.

1st: Does leaving the CAT on dramtically reduce the loudness/sound quality benefits?
2nd: I do not want to install the straight pipe myself. However, it's a $10,000 fine for a muffler shop if they cut the CAT off. Would it be damaging to cut off the CAT and then drive to the muffler shop?

Thanks.

Re:CAT & Straight Pipes

You won't hurt anything by driving w/o the cat. However, you might want to check to make sure that nothing is in the line of fire, and perhaps put a deflector of some sort at the end of the pipe.

My cat has its own little pipe, and can come and go with band clamps when I need to test.

I removed the straight pipe and put on a small muffler.
