broke timing pin

Was doing my valves and like an idiot I left the timing pin engaged and sheared it off. Does anyone have any ideas how to get it out and is it going to hurt anything if I just left it in? I am so PO'ed at myself right now. Thanks Doug

pin removal

remove the rest of the pin by heating up a sheet metal screw or drywall screw with a torch,(propane will work) thread it into the busted off nub, let it cool down a bit and it should pull out. It is a hard plastic/nylon. you will have to re-establish TDC when re-installing the new pin. Best way to do this is by the drop valve method. you will then have to re-time pump to engine, good time to bump timing if desired

Just an O-ring holds the pin into its holder. Reuse the same holder so you dont need to re establish TDC. give it a good pull it will come out. Maybe use pliers if you need to.

My pin is held in with not only a o-ring as well as a lock ring, the last time I had the pin out I had a real hard time reinstalling the lock ring as there is almost no room to work. Does anyone have a tip to do this easily?

You won't have to reestablish TDC, unless you remove the housing. The pin will pop out whit a small prybar (wonderbar or automotive prybar), it's held in w/ a lockring, the o-ring keeps oil from leaking out and also holds it away from the cam gear. The lockring can be reinserted ny finding the proper 3/8 drive deepwell socket and driving it home w/ a hammer.
Hope I answered all the above questions.

Well I lucked out and did not have to retreive the broken plastic piece, it was just cracked and stayed together. Now the fun part, putting the locking rings back in. Thanks for all your help. Doug

i never got my lockring back in??????? I fought & fought with it & then decided as hard as it was to pull the pin out after removing the lockring it probably isn't just gonna fall out, I have an extra pin in case it does fall out, givin that I notice it's gone before all my oil runs out & locks the motor up!! but I've had no problems so far, got a buddy who's truck is the same way & so far so good????? A piece of 1/2 in black pipe works well at getting the lock ring back in. Get a piece long enough to fit in you hand and slip on the ring, then slip the pipe over the pin and give it a good push. The pipe is long enough to get a good hold, but not to long to get in the way. KD
