I was wondering how much boost is considerd normal. I am topping out at 29lbs. Is more boost somthing I should spend money on?<br>Thanks!

 

29lbs. is not bad at all, I'd say it goes well with your #8 plate. The boost &quot;rule of thumb&quot; is 1psi/10hp, so 29psi can support 290hp. Of course peak boost is not everything, how much you make at lower rpms can effect your efficency and throttle response.<br><br>I added a compressor upgrade kit to mine, makes more boost, sooner. It's part of the reason I'm making very little smoke. I had to adjust my boost controller down to 35. It's the compressor (intake) housing and pin wheel for the next size larger turbo (HX40). I bought it for just under $200.<br><br>Your Banks turbo probably already has the &quot;quick-turbo&quot; exhaust housing which is supposed to spool up quicker than stock. I'd say you're right where you want to be for the setup you have.<br><br>Soon I am going to fab a 4&quot; exhaust, just for efficiency, sound, a possible slight reduction in EGTs, and maybe slightly quicker spool up. If you would like a &quot;performance&quot; exhaust sound, I would recommend considering a 4&quot; system. They're not really necessary until you make about 350hp, but heck, was it really necessary to add the other goodies?? ;D<br><br>By the way, I'm wondering what rpm your tranny shifts at under WOT? Right now, I have mine shifting at 2300-2500rpm. I just put in the Piers 3k governor spring kit, and it perked things up a bit. When I manually shift at about 2700, WOW hold on, it's almost like hitting a nitrous button or something! It has me thinking about setting the trans for higher shift points.

Rule of thumb on boost doesnt work once you move away from a stock turbo.<br>In my opinion.<br>Stock turbo I could hit 40psi, and I was dynoing @332hp on a mustang dyno.<br>With my Piers HX40 and some other little goodies I hit 35psi but I am Dynoing in the Mid 400's<br><br>--Justin
