While putting a head gasket on and fixing the after effects of a falling out dow pin on a customers 12v truck, I noticed that there is an International symbol casted into the front of the block and on the head also. Is this odd cause Ive never seen this before on a 12v????

 

I've have read of others finding this also , it should be better than Mexico .

 

Yes there are a lot of engines in the 12 valves that have IH cast on the blocks and heads.

 

Whats wrong with the mexican block?

 

The IH symbol usually means the engine came from the Consolidated plant in North Carolina. Most of the parts come from Brazil.

If anyone recalls, the 53 blocks produced in Mexico do not have the thin wall & porosity issues of the Brazilian castings.

 

No 5X blocks were made in Mexico, all those were done in Brazil. If you look at a Mexican block, its has a long list of numbers, instead of the 1" tall two digit number.
