a bit long, but please read and help!
Hi everyone! I have a 98 12 valve, 5spd with roughly 400hp and when the mods were first done i had a centerforce dual friction clutch installed based on what i was told by the person who did all my mods (really wishing i had have researched this topic before all my problems).
The first centerforce lasted about 2 to 3 months before it started slipping badly, at which point i went back to this individual and told them if there was anything bigger or better(now i know about south bend) i would be willing to pay extra for it, as i did not want this same expensive problem to occur again. He informed me that centerforce is the only and best clutch to go with, that there is nothing beefier on the market, and it must have been the way i drove it that caused the failure.
I had a second dual friction clutch installed and it lasted 6 to 7 months before starting to slip on hills. When i alerted this individual of the same problem occuring again he got quite defensive and nasty.
I now have a 13" south bend clutch and have learned quite a bit about this topic in the last few weeks. I even was told by numerous people that the stock dodge clutch is better than the centerforce for a cummins. What i need from you people is your stories and experiences and opinions of centerforce clutches in modded cummins trucks, as i am trying to get some kind of reimbursement out of this individual. I have literally spent thousands on clutches in the last year and it was completely unnecessary, and unfair.
Please help!
Thanks in advance!

From: Lingleville TX but active duty Air Force all over the world currently
IN MY OPINOIN... centerforce = crap I had a dual friction in my Z-28 (383 stroker) super duper 4 spd car.....lasted about 4 months........i went in and put in a GM heavy duty Truck clutch and never looked back. I think maybe those clutches used to be good as i knew fellow racers that used em but theyre all hype now.. i think... I wont ever buy one again. In my truck i ran a SBC and a LUK clutch and nevr had any probs with the clutches....I ruined the LUK with a oil leak that ruined the clutch..but i dont think that is to be blamed on the clutch. Now that said i put both clutches through Hell and never had a prob.....I tryed in my camaro with the center force and ended up walking home.....

U heard right
the centerforce is garbage, i had a twin disk in there, and it was nothing but problems... TThe stocker holds up better than that pos... My truck was at just that, 350 rwhp when i received it, its a little less right not due to it being horrendous on mileage and it smoked alot... I like it at daily drivable about 330 rwhp with a banks plate full forward. Regardless that clutch was a pile... OMG the previous owner said he had it no more than 10K miles, and i ruined it with just towing a trailer within 5K of owning the truck.... Id say get your money back if you can. If im not mistaken tho i think centerforce says their clutches are not for diesels.. They maybe high HP, but they sure are not high TQ...

CF dual friction is garbage, hands down.
I ran one on my turbo RX-7 and it lasted about 1 year and disentegrated on a mild 1-2 shift(about 300 crank HP).My buddy sheared a puck off one with a STOCK Honda Civic, making a whopping 110lb-ft of torque!!!
Get something else, anything but the CF........

If what TX said is true, I would check out any Centerforce literature or even ask them from the website (to have it in writing) if their clutches are suitable for diesel. If they claim they are NOT, I would get ALL my money back from this guy. Probably have to take him to small claims. Opinions from us are great, but that are only opinions and won't hold up in court.
Certainly what I would do. Good Luck!

Most certainly my experience with this clutch
Is the cold hard truth. I was towing an empty two horse trailer when it gave out. lucky me i was already home. I dont remember seein anything for diesels on the website.. infact here is a link...
http://www.centerforce.com/clutches....on=clutchtypes
here is the homepage and notice that none of their products are for diesel use.

Now what strikes me as strange, is that The centerforce that i had (dual friction) is said to be for all out modified vehicles, and four wheel drives. Well i had a mildly modified ram, and 4wd and it still failed. The PO who installed it was a stickler for getting things professionally done, so it was done by a reputable shop. The clutch just dont hold up to massive TQ is my opinion. much less for anything else. My stock clutch has held up 20K miles, and its five thousand more than that POS, so at worst my next clutch will be a southbend lower end quality, which is superior to any centerforce or stock clutch assembly out there HANDS DOWN....
now searchin for a clutch for my ram, i find no press releases, and only a dual friction, which has no reviews or back up for a positive product. that in itself tells me chose again..

Best of luck

Centerforce part #DF989984 is listed in there online catalog for the 5.9 turbo Diesel.
But they are junk IMO there pressure plate is counter weighted to put more pressure on the disc at higher RPM, Cummins diesels make power at low RPM.

I talked to one guy from Centerforce and he was actually pretty helpful and actually asked that i send the clutch back to him, which is more help than i can say my installer gave me. they do claim their clutches will work in diesels, just not for how long.
Thanks for all the replies!
