Bad Crank Sensor?
Bad Crank Sensor?
Can a bad crank position sensor cause no tach, no ac, and no charge? Thats the condition I have no. I checked the plug in front of the #1 valve cover and put dielectric grease on it and it worked yesterday. Went to the truck this morning and now it's messing up again. Sometimes it works fine and then sometimes (most of the time) it doesn't. Thanks
Yes it can cause that. If the pcm sees 0 RPM it shuts off the ASD relay. Pull that connector apart again and, using a small pick, bend in the walls of the female terminals slightly, so they will grip the pins tighter. Try that for a while, it may be all thats needed.
I had the same symptoms on my 97 and it was a bad crank sensor. Mine was not intermittant it just died. The gap at the damper is 0.050. You might try checking that with a non-magnetic (brass) feeler gauge or a business card. Mine cost about $70 from NAPA.
Yours sounds like a bad connection. Try spraying some electronic contact cleaner into the socket. Also verify connections and ground points.

My bet is more like a broken wire rather than bad sensor.
What probably happened is when you applied the grease just moving around the wire temporary fixed the short.
Probably the broken wire is near the connector.
